A short weekend update

Added a few more header pics… Evan is now famous with the fire breathing pic.

A short weekend update
I spent 2 days climbing this weekend. Friday Matt, Kasandra, Evan, Mike, and I spent the evening climbing at Lighthouse Park. Mike climbed for the very first time. There were tons of seals floating around by the cliffs. It was really neat having staring contests with some of the seals. Yesterday 21 VOCers went to Squamish for a beginner rock climb course. I taught for the very first time - building anchors for top roping for my students and giving them a quick intro on anchor set up and teaching them how to rappel. Fortunately everything went as planned and I didn’t kill any of my students. Phew!
Today I was able to sleep in. The last weekend I was able to sleep in was probably like 6 weeks ago. I felt very good and energized all day. It sure felt good to have more than 7 hours of sleep!
So how do you get out of the thought process that you will never find someone else. Well I guess you could do what I am doing. I am not going to work at making something work, I just want to let things happen. Maybe I will go out one night and meet the girl of my dreams, and everything will fall into place, then again maybe I won’t. The key thing I need to remember is that nights like last night, where there are almost no feelings or emotions at all, isn’t what I want…

In Chicago for Thanksgiving

I just arrived in Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with my girlfriend. I got here this morning, and will be here until next Saturday. It has been about a month since we have last saw each other, so their is definately a weirdness between us.

To be truthful, I was actually suppose to get here Friday night so we could maximize the time with one another, but postponed until today because I had plans Friday and Saturday night.

A little about Saturday night…. well it sucked! My buddy’s friend was having a small party and when we got there, there was one girl and 12 other guys (at least the girl was hot though!). We stayed about an hour then all went to a bar, which was interesting.
Expect a statement from Tony Snow blaming the “liberal media” for always pointing towards the negative aspects of the invasion and never crediting the administration for “bringing democracy” and improving the (non-existent) infrastructure in Iraq. Also look out for an attack on the “cut and run” Democrats and another affirmation from our Dear Leader on the importance of “staying the course.” Did anyone expect competence from an utterly incompetent administration?

Racist Ahnold?

September 9, 2006 @ 12:10 am - Filed under Moran

California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger is in hot water for “racist comments.” So, what’s new?

The comments were captured on tapes during a speechwriting session between Mr. Schwarzenegger, a Republican seeking re-election, and his chief of staff, Susan Kennedy, when they spoke of their shared affection for Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia’s legislative style.

“I mean Cuban, Puerto Rican, they are all very hot,” the governor says on the recording. “They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it.”

I don’t understand exactly what’s racist about this statement? He is perpetuating a stereotype about Hispanics, but it can hardly be labeled as racism. Maybe I am missing something.
Why is it that my friends are afraid to talk to girls they don’t know? By no means are they ugly. I can honestly say almost all of them are 7’s or 8’s, but for some reason they turn into wimps when we go out. I feel like there is a lot of hype before we go out, but when we get there everything changes. I need to find a better wing man!
Have a date this Tuesday… we’ll see how this one goes. Hopefully it won’t turn out disastrous like the last couple. Wish me luck!

Oh yeah, changed the background colour a little bit to make it easier on the eyes.

A long post
The original plan for the past long weekend was to leave Friday afternoon and join Piotr, Felix, and Evan on the Tantalus Range trip. At the last minute I realized that my mom had a surgery booked on Friday afternoon for her fingers. The family decided to have dinner Friday night, making the Tantalus Range trip a no go. Instead I woke up at 4:30AM Sat morning, drove around Vancouver to pick up Christian, Lorraine, Dorota, Urszula and drove to Penticton for a fun weekend of climbing at Skaha bluffs.

We arrived at the parking lot around 11. It was sunny and hot. Earlier that morning it was pouring rain in Vancouver. Having checked the forecast, the Tantalus guys made a wise decision - postpone the trip and come to Skaha instead. Conveniently, we bumped into them just as we were phoning around other VOCers trying to find out where they went. We quickly got ready, hiked for about 30 mins, and arrived at one of the many Skaha walls.

white sugar

June 2nd, 2007 by chowbow

Then I added one cup of white sugar, one cup of brown sugar, and one cup of apple sauce. I let that sit for about 1/2 an hour. Then I added two cups of bisquick, 1/2 cup of flour, two eggs, 1/4 cup of butter and a dash of salt. I split the batter into two bowls and added chocolate chips to one of them. I baked these two breads at 350 for about 1 hour, and they were so moist. The chocolate bread was great with vanilla ice cream on top of it and I put butter on the other. Great flavors, have fun trying it. I bet walnuts would be a nice add to the bread. What do you think?

The thing that was really awful was when we asked how much it was going to be (they are billing me later). The nurse didn’t really know, but she estimated it was going to be in the ballpark of $1000. I had prepared myself for something in between $100 and $500, but at $1000 I could only laugh. For a scraped knee, that’s completely ridiculous. That’s like Pentagon budget line items ridiculous. I’m beginning to sidle into the Hillary Clinton camp because if anyone will push through universal health care it’d be her (just to be able to wave it in the faces of all those who thwarted her for the first two terms of her presidency..er..First Ladyship). At least if everyone is covered by something, then the hospitals won’t charge a couple of months’ rent for a strip of gauze and some Bactine.

New Physics Article: Cymatics
Someday I would like to get more than 4 hours of sleep. I have so much work to do every day lately. That’s great but I haven’t been able to get out and enjoy Hawaii much. Anyway, here’s the latest physics article:

Cymatics: the Art of Sound

Read the blog too, it’s about cymatics and Rosslyn Chapel (of the “Da Vinci Code” fame).

My Amazing Aunt Beverly
I hope she doesn’t mind if I post this, but this is an incredible story.
Turkey Sausage - Good or Bad

Hi all. How is your day going, mine is great. I tried turkey sausage last night for the first time. I enjoy using ground turkey because it is so much healthier for you, so I tried their sausage link version. I made a pasta with it, and it came out great. What I did was use fetuccini noodles, cooked and tossed with butter, then set aside. For the sauce, I cut the sausage into pieces, then fried it with a chopped up scallion.
